"OPENS UP REAL OPPORTUNITY"

Costain shares how it is using the CLC's Talent Retention Scheme

The Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) Talent Retention Scheme helps talented individuals showcase their experience and expertise, while helping businesses find the skills they need. It is free for all ACE members to use and as of the end of January, it has already saved the industry more than £415,000 in recruitment costs.

As one of the early adopters of the Construction Talent Retention Scheme (CTRS), Costain has pioneered its purpose and has recognised the potential it has for transforming construction recruitment from the outset.

So far, the company has advertised more than 30 vacancies on the portal, which their Head of Recruitment, Michaela Poust, recognises as being a real "game-changer" in terms of an initiative for the sector.

The CTRS supports the entire construction industry and plays an important role in attracting new talent into the sector. In addition, as a collaborative platform that is free for all businesses and candidates to use, so therefore it further serves to unite the construction sector in its collective aim to recruit and retain the best talent.

Michaela and her team use the portal every day to either post new positions or search for available talent they may not otherwise be able to access. Depending on what they find, they may even use this insight to create new opportunities at Costain based on available talent.

Michaela Poust, Head of Recruitment, Costain, says: "Sometimes we don’t always have a clear job description to hand, which means it’s not uncommon for us to hire somebody based on their capabilities and ability to do the work. The portal enables us to scour the breadth and depth of talent within the industry and potentially create roles based on the available skillset."

"The CTRS opens up our eyes to the breadth of construction and engineering experience out there. For me, personally, I get to see Rolls Royce people, who I wouldn’t normally get to see. It enables me to access construction people, as well as cross-sector candidates, which is incredibly insightful and opens up real opportunity."
