VISITING SITES REGULARLY? FIND OUT ABOUT UPDATES TO THE CSCS CARD SCHEME

Following a recent meeting of the Health & Safety forum, ACE shares updates to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).

CSCS cards are required to show that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for activities they undertake. By ensuring the workforce are appropriately qualified the card plays its part in improving standards and safety. The scheme has been recently updated.

Holding a CSCS card is not a legislative requirement. It is entirely up to the client and principal contractor whether workers are required to hold a card before they are allowed on site. However, most principal contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid and up-to-date card.

With this in mind, many ACE members who work closely on delivery of projects and visit sites regularly, will need to apply for an updated card.

The Health & Safety forum welcomed David Watson, non-exec director at CSCS, who presented the scheme changes and the potential implications for members. The slide deck includes more details and is available to download now – simply login or register with your work email address to access it.

Laura Hague, chair of ACE’s Health & Safety forum and group safety manager at Mott MacDonald said: “These changes potentially affect people who already have existing cards - it’s important to be aware of the changes and how they may affect you. This includes those classed as visitors to sites.”

Claire Clifford, director of people, culture and skills at ACE said: “We were delighted to welcome the CSCS to our Health & Safety forum recently to discuss the CSCS card and the implications for members who visit sites regularly. This is yet another example of the group offering practical support and tangible advice to members. If you’re interested in attending future sessions, please do get in touch with the team today.”
