SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES PROGRAMME FOR GOVERNMENT 2023/24

In response to the recent release of Scotland's Programme for Government, the ACE has developed an initial member briefing highlighting key announcements and their potential impact on members and the wider industry.

The ACE recognises the significance of the government's commitment to building a greener, fairer, and more sustainable Scotland. The Programme for Government outlines a series of policy priorities that have the potential to reshape the landscape for ACE members, positioning them at the forefront of driving innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.

Some of the key highlights from the Programme for Government and their implications for ACE members include:

Zero Carbon Homes:

The Heat in Buildings Bill seeks to accelerate the transition to zero carbon homes. ACE members can play a pivotal role in designing and implementing energy-efficient solutions for sustainable housing.

Green Skills and Net Zero Transition:

The focus on acquiring green skills for the transition to a net-zero economy creates opportunities for ACE members to provide training and expertise in sustainable technologies and practices, and has the potential to contribute towards a future industry workforce with the necessary skills to support the transition.

Climate Plan Development:

The development of the draft climate plan offers opportunities for ACE members to provide technical input and solutions for emissions reduction strategies and infrastructure development.

Infrastructure Projects:

Several government initiatives, such as circular economy projects, renewable energy, and housing reform, may lead to infrastructure projects that require engineering expertise. ACE members can engage in some of these projects.

Circular Economy and Recycling:

The Circular Economy Bill and Recycling Improvement Fund aim to enhance recycling and reuse services across Scotland. ACE members with expertise in waste management and resource optimisation can contribute to the development of sustainable recycling solutions.

Biodiversity and Nature Restoration:

The commitment to publishing a new biodiversity strategy and supporting the Nature Restoration Fund presents opportunities for ACE members to participate in projects focused on habitat restoration and conservation.

Next steps:

The ACE will continue to ensure members to stay informed about these policy priorities and explore opportunities to engage with relevant projects and initiatives. As Scotland embarks on its journey toward a greener and fairer future, ACE members are well-positioned to drive sustainable growth, innovation, and positive change.
