WSP has appointed Alex Herbert as major projects director for its Planning and Consents business, strengthening its capability to support the UK’s energy transition and delivery of nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Herbert joins WSP following more than a decade in senior client-side development roles, working with organisations including RWE Renewables, Low Carbon, Horizon Nuclear Power and Tidal Lagoon Power.
He brings extensive experience leading the planning, promotion and consenting of complex energy schemes spanning offshore wind, nuclear, solar and tidal.
Gareth Howells, managing director for Planning and Consents at WSP, said: “We’re seeing growing demand from clients navigating the complexity of major infrastructure planning and consenting, particularly across the energy sector.
“Alex’s experience – especially from the client side - gives him a deep understanding of the challenges developers face, and the practical solutions needed to unlock delivery. His appointment strengthens our ability to support projects that are critical to the UK’s net zero ambitions.”
Alex Herbert added: “I’m excited to be joining WSP at a time of significant change across the energy and infrastructure landscape. I’m looking forward to working with clients and colleagues to help bring forward the next generation of major projects.”
