GHD has appointed Jonathan Edwards as transport market leader for EMEA, effective from 12 October 2020, as the business seeks to grow its client base in the region and further position itself as a key partner in the transport sector.

The international professional services company is active in the water, energy and resources, environment, property and buildings, and transportation sectors, providing engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services to a range of private and public sector clients. Established in 1928, GHD operates across five continents - Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America - and the Pacific region, and employs more than 10,000 people in 200+ offices worldwide.

Edwards has several years of experience working with infrastructure organisations on major transport projects across aviation, highways and rail, including some of the UK's largest and most complex programmes.

He joins GHD from Arora Group, where he held the position of group operations director, focusing on the group’s “Heathrow West” expansion proposal for Heathrow Airport. Prior to this, he spent seven years at Arcadis as a director, where his clients and projects included the Civil Aviation Authority, Digital Railway (Network Rail), Lower Thames Crossing (Highways England), Stansted Airport, Future Cities Catapult, Transport for London and HS2.

Commenting on the appointment, Simon Light, executive managing director, EMEA, at GHD, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jonathan to the GHD team. Transportation is a key industry for us and Jonathan’s sector expertise, experience and relationships will be highly valuable as we continue to grow our offering across the EMEA region. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide clients with integrated services throughout the entire project life cycle and Jonathan, with his proven track record in programme management, strategy, business transformation, performance improvement and stakeholder management, is the perfect fit for this role.”

Looking forward to his new role, Edwards said: “The sector is going through a period of major disruption and the future of transport is dramatically changing. This presents opportunities to improve the way projects are delivered, the services customers rely on and the operation of networks across the EMEA region. Acting as a trusted partner to clients throughout this period and into the future, I believe GHD can continue to deliver excellent propositions and technical solutions that benefit both GHD’s clients and the communities in which they operate.”
