AECOM has appointed Susan Evans as its new head of rail for UK and Ireland. Evans will focus on growing AECOM’s rail business in the region and will lead the company’s multidisciplinary rail, bridges and structures teams. She also joins AECOM’s UK&I civil infrastructure leadership team as it continues to focus on delivering excellence to clients.
With over 30 years’ experience, Evans has been responsible for the delivery of several major projects and held a number of positions across technology research, business development and engineering. She joins AECOM from Alstom, where she was managing director (urban and services). In this role, she led the successful delivery of an extension to the Nottingham tram network. In addition, she was responsible for Alstom’s contracts managing the Northern Line fleet maintenance, the Dublin tram vehicle and infrastructure maintenance and Nottingham tram maintenance.
Evans will replace John Longthorne who has led AECOM's rail, bridges and structures team for the past two years. He will now take on the role as major projects director and focus on positioning, bidding and delivery across the UK&I market.
Mark Southwell, managing director for civil infrastructure, UK&I, AECOM, said: “Civil Infrastructure in the UK is constantly developing and currently going through significant changes. Susan's broad rail expertise across the UK&I will no doubt unlock a number of opportunities for AECOM. I look forward to seeing the positive impact she makes with her extensive knowledge of both rail and infrastructure.”
Commenting on her appointment, Evans said: “AECOM is constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. This is an exciting time for the industry and I look forward to working with AECOM’s fantastic team of experts to drive business growth across the UK and Ireland.”
Evans is also chair of the board of trustees for the Community Transport Association and a Railway Industry Association board member.
