DELIVERING A GREEN RECOVERY

Building on the success of ACE’s Navigating COVID-19 and their own Coming out of COVID series in the spring and summer, the Infrastructure Intelligence Live webinar series will explore the key issues as our sector – and society – emerges from lockdown.

With the government’s key priority being the jumpstarting of the UK economy, environmentalists fear that politicians will approve and possibly subsidise any economic activity, regardless of how many tonnes of CO2 are pumped into the atmosphere. But is this fear justified? The prime minister and chancellor have been careful to point out the need for sustainable projects and, at least in words, the message of the importance of the environment and commitment to net zero appears to be getting through.

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us that society can live differently and that net-zero can be achieved provided that we work together towards that common goal. However, to deliver on the government’s ambition for a green, sustainable recovery, the industry must also take a serious look at its approach to value, including, crucially, how it is defined. The construction sector’s historic affinity with cheapness, must give way to a much broader understanding of value, one rooted in delivering better social, economic and environmental outcomes. This webinar on Friday 9 October 2020 will discuss these issues and more.

A green stimulus programme that creates more sustainable cities, investing in active transport and building the infrastructure for a better world is certainly within our grasp and a green recovery is possible, but it will take political will. So, how do we keep the key issue of sustainability at the forefront of politicians’ minds to ensure this green recovery? Find out more by attending this webinar.

This webinar will take place on Friday 9 October at 11am.
