WSP has been reappointed development partner with the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA), strengthening a long standing partnership that supports the delivery of TVCA’s major transport investment programme.
The contract extension ensures continued support for the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS), the Levelling Up Fund, the Active Travel Fund and other projects that will enhance mobility, connectivity and low carbon travel across Tees Valley.
WSP has worked closely with TVCA and council partners for more than five years to deliver transport infrastructure that supports the authority’s ambition for a high quality, reliable and low carbon transport network for communities and businesses across Tees Valley.
Under the renewed agreement, WSP will continue providing programme and strategic advisory support, scheme development from concept through detailed design, consultation and engagement expertise, carbon and climate change strategies and assessments, business case development, strategy work across active travel, bus and rail, as well as funding support, procurement expertise and construction delivery support.
WSP has operated in Teesside for more than 40 years and opened a new office in Stockton in 2022. Through the development partner contract, the business has drawn heavily on local delivery teams and strengthened its social value legacy in the region, including delivering £500,000 in measured social value over the three years through local employment, skills activity and community support, ensuring the benefits of investment are felt across communities.
Mike Holmes, framework director at WSP, said: “We’re proud to continue our partnership with the Tees Valley Combined Authority. This extension reflects our shared commitment to delivering a reliable, low carbon and future ready transport network that helps people and businesses thrive. By drawing on our long-standing presence in Teesside and our national expertise in strategic transport planning, delivery and devolution, we look forward to supporting TVCA as it turns its economic and place making ambitions into lasting outcomes for the region.”
Jonathan Spruce, director of infrastructure at Tees Valley Combined Authority, added: “As we move forward with our exciting plans for improving sustainable and low carbon transport across the Tees Valley and with further devolution to the Combined Authority on the horizon, we are really pleased to continue our partnership with WSP, building on the delivery of a number of interventions to date and bringing forward more opportunities for local people and communities to be involved in making our region one where anything is possible.”
Looking ahead, WSP will continue supporting wider regional priorities - from clean energy, hydrogen and nuclear activity to digital and industrial cluster development - all of which align with Tees Valley’s Strategic Economic Plan and the emerging 10 Year Local Growth Plan.
