VINCI WINS FIRST PHASE OF £350M STOCKPORT SCHEME

Vinci has been chosen as the preferred contractor to bring forward Phase 1 of Stockport 8, a new £350m mixed residential neighbourhood to the west of Stockport town centre.

The appointment was made by Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) and ECF – a joint venture between Homes England, Legal & General and Muse.

Vinci will now work alongside the project team in design development and subject to planning approval, will start on site in Q1 2026, with the demolition of the existing bus depot.

Located on land either side of King Street West and next to the iconic railway viaduct, Stockport 8 will be one of the largest developments within the 130-acre Town Centre West masterplan, reconnecting the area to the town centre and creating a walkable, integrated community under the railway arches.

The plans sit at the heart of Stockport MDC’s masterplan to transform Stockport Town Centre West into the UK’s most sustainable, liveable town centre.

The “green neighbourhood” will feature a mix of housing tenures to suit existing and new homeowners and tenants.

Paul Richards, deputy chief executive of Stockport Council and chief executive of Stockport MDC, said: “Stockport 8 is a cornerstone of our plans for Town Centre West, and reaching this milestone is a significant step forward in delivering our vision for a thriving, sustainable town centre.

“It’s fantastic to see momentum building for the regeneration of the area as a whole, with a number of exciting developments now progressing at speed and 1,200 new homes already completed or under construction.

“We’re pleased to welcome Vinci to the project as a key delivery partner and look forward to working together to bring this new neighbourhood to life – one that will set new standards for sustainable, community-focused urban living.”

The plans for Stockport 8 were shaped following an extensive two-stage consultation with local people, businesses and stakeholders, which began in January 2024.

The full team behind Stockport 8 is made up of Stockport MDC, ECF, architect shedkm, landscape architects Planit, the planning team from Deloitte, project manager Walker Sime, Tace (MEP) and Renaissance for structural and civil engineering, Arup on highways and transport and engagement specialist Font Comms.
