NEW INFRASTRUCTURE INTELLIGENCE MAGAZINE OUT NOW

The latest edition of our Infrastructure Intelligence magazine is out today, putting one of the country’s most critical topics in the spotlight – energy.

Ensuring a secure, affordable and low-carbon energy supply is vital for both the economy and the environment.  We all want the lights stay on – and our bills to come down.

But bigger picture ambitions for net zero and a need for a more self-sufficient UK energy supply means work to create a secure and resilient energy system is a priority for government, industry and us all.  Recent policy and investment decisions have reflected this ambition.

We are publishing our new edition just 24 hours after the government gave the green light to Sizewell C. The multi-billion-pound development is the first British-owned nuclear power station to be announced in more than three decades.

As well as providing energy for around six million homes and creating direct jobs, the ripple effect of this major investment will be felt across the economy, the supply chain and have a hugely positive impact on skills development. The news comes as the government has vowed a “golden age” of nuclear, to boost the UK’s energy security.

Today we speak to Great British Energy, the new state-owned company aiming to power the country with clean, secure, home-grown energy and ensure the country becomes a global leader in clean energy.

In this new edition we also look at the impact of wind power over the last decade and how recent government policy is looking to reverse a near decade of stagnation in onshore wind development in England.

We get an update on significant work under way to improve the country’s energy infrastructure with National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, and we speak to energy sector regular Ofgem about major projects taking the sector forward.

Plus, we speak to industry about the opportunities, and challenges, still to be considered for the energy sector.

But it’s also important to remember the wider context or the energy agenda. Investment isn't just about power generation – it is about creating economic renewal, new jobs and a demand for training and skills that will equip our next generation of green energy engineers.

Winning the battle on climate change, improving energy security and developing a more resilient and sustainable economy has never been more important.

Energy’s time is now.
