The Mona Offshore Wind Project has been granted development consent by the secretary of state for energy security and net zero.
The offshore wind farm, with an approximate capacity of 1,500MW, will be located in the Irish Sea. It was awarded consent as part of the Round 4 Offshore Wind Licensing Arrangements.
The application was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration by Mona Offshore Wind on 22 February 2024 and accepted for examination on 21 March 2024.
The Mona Offshore Wind Project is being developed by Mona Offshore Wind, a joint venture of bp and Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW).
Mona includes offshore elements, to generate electricity and both offshore and onshore elements to enable the transmission of the electricity generated to the National Grid.
It will comprise up to 96 turbines. It’s expected a final investment decision will be made in 2026/27 with a commercial operation date in 2028/29.
