KIER SECURES £44.4M SOUTHERN WATER CONTRACTS

Kier has secured contracts totalling £44.4m with Southern Water to help deliver infrastructure.

The firm has won two Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contracts under Southern Water’s  £3.1bn AMP8 Strategic Delivery Partner Framework, one of several frameworks Southern is using to deliver its AMP8 programme.

These awards build on Kier’s earlier AMP8 successes and further strengthen its role in delivering essential wastewater and clean water infrastructure upgrades across Southern Water’s region. This includes two additional ECI contracts under AMP8, worth a combined £28.8m, which were awarded earlier this year.

The first of the new awards is a £19.9m contract which includes early-stage design and development for six wastewater treatment sites - Chickenhall (Eastleigh), Fullerton, Leeds, Newnham Valley (Preston), Paddock Wood and Sellindge.

These works will enhance capacity and compliance to meet future environmental and population demands in line with Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) commitments.

The second is a £24.5m contract covering another six wastewater treatment sites at Dambridge (Wingham), Felbridge, Staplehurst, Ticehurst, Tonbridge and Ulcombe.

Kier will progress design development and constructability planning for upgrades focused on improving ammonia, phosphorus, and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal.

The ECI approach will help optimise design, reduce programme and delivery risks, and provide cost and schedule certainty ahead of the construction phase. Both contracts are being delivered under the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract.

Simon Tomlinson, director for wastewater capital delivery at Southern Water, said: “The projects demonstrate Southern Water’s commitment to improving the Environment. The projects will improve the treatment performance at the works, as well as support population growth, meeting the future demands across our region.”

Andy Beech, framework director at Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear and Networks, added: “These awards represent another important step in our partnership with Southern Water at the start of AMP8. They reflect the confidence our client has in Kier to deliver high-quality, sustainable wastewater solutions that will improve performance, protect the environment, and deliver long-term value for customers.”
