Amey has secured a major eight-year contract with Irish Rail - Iarnród Éireann – marking the firm’s major contract with the rail operator.

It has been appointed to Irish Rail’s Signalling, Electrification and Telecoms (SET) Implementation Partner single party framework. The eight-year framework will see Amey support Irish Rail across the Republic of Ireland, providing rail engineering resources, delivering multidisciplinary engineering services and undertaking signalling, electrification and telecoms works on a project-by-project basis.

Tony Ennis, chief engineer signalling, electrification and telecoms at Irish Rail, said: “This framework gives Irish Rail access to specialist signalling, electrification and telecoms expertise that will support the continued development of our rail network over the years ahead. Amey brings strong technical capability and a collaborative approach, and we look forward to working together to deliver projects safely, efficiently and with long-term value for passengers and communities across Ireland.”

The appointment establishes Amey as a strategic delivery partner to Irish Rail and builds on the company’s growing presence in Ireland following its involvement in the Luas operations and maintenance contract delivered through its joint venture with Keolis.

Meanwhile, Mott MacDonald - in partnership with Roughan & O’Donovan - has been appointed to Irish Rail’s Multi-Party Framework for Project Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy Services.

The framework, which has an estimated value of €600m, covers advisory and design consultancy services across Project Management Procedures Phases 1-5. That includes developing the project scope, concept, feasibility and preliminary design through to supporting the planning and statutory process, detailed design and tendering. The framework has an initial term of five years, with the option to extend for a further three.

Through the framework, Mott MacDonald and Roughan & O'Donovan will provide multidisciplinary advisory and design expertise to support projects within Irish Rail’s capital investment programme. The appointment builds on Mott MacDonald’s involvement with Irish rail schemes. Recent projects include the nation-wide CONNECT programme, the Glounthaune to Midleton Twin Tracking project and the Drogheda BEMU charging station.
