AECOM TO LEAD DELIVERY OF HEATHROW’S NEW TERMINAL 2 BAGGAGE SYSTEM

Heathrow Airport has appointed AECOM to design and deliver the new baggage system and associated infrastructure for Terminal 2.

AECOM will act as programme advisor and lead designer for the work which includes leading the design for the asset replacement of the current Terminal 1 building and services infrastructure, enabling works related to the new baggage system, and architectural, C&S, and MEP design for infrastructure related to the new baggage system.

AECOM Director Mike Pauley said: “Heathrow requires a safe, efficient, and resilient baggage system to serve the millions of passengers per year which rely on it to deliver a smooth journey as they travel through the airport.

“The AECOM team is looking forward to working with Heathrow and the supply chain to design the new system and execute its delivery, giving peace of mind to passengers, an improved workplace for Heathrow’s people, and protecting Heathrow’s operations and ability to grow.

“As a partner of Heathrow, we are committed to helping it deliver on its sustainability and social goals which includes decarbonisation, supporting SMEs, and opportunities for local communities.”

Terminal 1, which closed to passengers in 2015, currently houses the Terminal 2 departures and transfers baggage system, as well as critical IT and services for other areas of the airport.

AECOM’s work will support the protection of the current systems and infrastructure while the new assets are being delivered and ready for operation.
