WSP, a multi-disciplinary professional services consultancy, has secured the coveted PAS2080:2016 accreditation, confirming the firm’s well-established capacity and competence to manage carbon emissions impacts across the whole lifecycle of infrastructure projects.

Following a thorough external audit, where WSP’s people, processes and projects were reviewed, WSP’s UK certification to PAS2080 was confirmed in April.

As part of the audit, the firm’s carbon management process was reviewed.

Now embedded in its UK business management system, the new process was developed by WSP’s Corporate ESG team working closely with net zero leads across all of its sector teams.

Charlotte Downes, carbon programme manager in WSP’s Corporate ESG team, said: “This accreditation demonstrates WSP’s competency and capacity to deliver carbon management for all of our clients.

"In a technical sense, having PAS2080 as a framework means that carbon becomes everyone’s business, giving us all responsibility to work collaboratively to accelerate real-world decarbonisation.

"The launch of our bespoke carbon management process means that all of our teams have access to consistent guidance and appropriate tools to apply effective carbon management principles to any project, supporting our corporate carbon reduction targets."

This announcement links to other UK road, rail and water clients who also hold PAS2080 accreditation.

Supporting National Highways, WSP worked as part of a consortium alongside Mott MacDonald and Ramboll in 2022 to help them become the world's first roads organisation to secure PAS2080:2016 accreditation.

Alongside other leading firms, WSP supported the development of the updated PAS2080:2023 guidance, published in April, with roles on both the technical advisory panel and steering group.

This update unites the whole of the built environment – both infrastructure and buildings – within a consistent PAS2080 domain to focus on purposeful carbon reduction.
