ENABLING VALUE-BASED DECISION-MAKING

Update on ACE’s work developing the Construction Innovation Hub's Value Toolkit

Yesterday’s publication of the Construction Playbook makes this a good time to return to the work ACE is leading for the Construction Innovation Hub to develop a module of their upcoming Value Toolkit.

Led by Hannah Vickers, and building on the Future of Consultancy campaign, ACE is progressing thinking around the Value Toolkit’s Client and Market approach. It will feed into the project which promises to change how the industry views, processes and measures value.

ACE has shared its members’ experiences of delivering some of the most complex projects across the UK and this insight has driven how the Toolkit can maximise value and mitigate risk. Under this module, we have designed and developed three tools to enhance project delivery to ensure there is an effective procurement transaction for all:

  • The Client Approach Framework will walk clients through a set of choices of logical and efficient processes to drive delivery and participate in the development of the Go-To Market Strategy.

  • A Client Risk Profiler is a new system that maximises and enhances the full value profile. The tool will assist clients in migrating from conventional risk management methods and steer them towards comprehensive and sophisticated approaches.

  • Developing a Market Offering, in close collaboration with CECA, which includes standardised operational and commercial tools for both consultants and contractors.

Ultimately, the Value Toolkit will determine the precise responsibilities each client has in affecting positive social outcomes and allow us to build a value-based incentives framework to embrace such decision-making.

A structured approach toward generating positive value will be essential to ensuring construction is at the forefront of Britain’s recovery from the pandemic, and ensuring climate and infrastructure delivery ambitions are met.

Furthermore, the Value Toolkit’s functionality, at all stages of the project lifecycle, and our tailored approach to client needs, will ensure policy decisions are consistently aligned with our clients’ commercial ambitions.

The Government’s clear financial commitment to ‘levelling up’ in its National Infrastructure Strategy illustrates a clear understanding of the importance of construction in ensuring a fair recovery for all from the pandemic. With the value toolkit, clients in our sector will be equipped to secure this.

The toolkit is expected to launch in Spring 2021. Register your interest and find out more about ACE’s involvement in the project on the CIH website.
