ACE's Emerging Professionals have launched a new series of fact sheets on digital.

Demystifying Digital explains AI, BIM, digital twins and the modern workplace in an easily digestible format. Designed to help those at the beginning of their careers working in the built environment, they will also be of use to those who perhaps only touch on these subjects in the periphery of their day-to-day.

Digital processes have become essential to how we work over the past decade and looking ahead, they will become even more important. Efficient automation and new innovations will help our sector delivering sustainable infrastructure at scale and speed, while meeting society’s goals on climate change, for increased productivity and for regional development.

But what do “buzzwords” such as AI, BIM, digital twins and the modern workplace really mean? What do people working in the built environment really need to know and understand?

Written by emerging professionals working in the digital, technology and innovation space, they have also had the input from more established digital experts from across the industry.

Project co-ordinator James Moore (Ramboll) said: “We’re pleased to share these factsheets which have been designed to create a little bit more clarity around commonly heard digital terms in our workplaces. We’ve tried to make these as accessible as possible and link to sources of further information where relevant. They will help many to start to understand terms such as AI, BIM, digital twins and the modern workplace and, most importantly, where they overlap.”
