Water estate repairs to be carried out

Work is to begin immediately on a programme of small-scale repair works across Anglican Water's 1,257 water and wastewater treatment facilities in England and Wales.

The one-year framework covering the whole of the Anglican Water estate has been awarded to the engineering and construction group Costain - marking the first partnership between the firms.

Anglican Water, which supplies 1.2 billion litres of water every day, currently provides wastewater services for six million domestic and business customers in the east of England.

Commenting on the partnership between the companies, Matt Crabtree, Costain's customer director, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this framework by Anglian Water and, as a new customer, we very much look forward to helping it achieve its complex delivery programme."

In order to protect the 1,240 km of coastline in the region, the treated wastewater processed by Anglican has to pass strict quality standards, which are set by law and the water regulator Ofwat.
