University of York inviting bids for £100m campus expansion

The University of York is looking for a developer to build and operate two new halls of residence on a new 160-acre campus.

Both student accommodation buildings will be located on the Heslington East site and cost an estimated £50 million each.

Construction firms will be looking to oversee the provision of student accommodation for a long period as the contract for the first building will see the operator purchase a lease of up to 60 years. According to the institution, the contractor may generate revenue from student lettings and charges for services to the accommodation.

A broad specification provided by the university revealed that the first halls of residence will have around 650 student bed spaces.

Successful bidders for the first hall may be asked by the University of York to develop and operate the second building.

Interested parties are required to participate in a pre-qualification exercise for the works by 17th January 2012.
