Temperatures are expected to soar in the UAE over the next few months. This has seen the UAE government bring in new regulations extending the weeks in which the summer midday working break applies. This break has previously seen work cease between 12:30pm and 3:00pm through the months of July and August. This year the period started on 15 June and will end on 15 September. This may repeat in future years.
For a number years now the UAE government and others in the Middle East have taken the health and safety of construction site workers seriously. This has brought about a series of new health and safety rules. Such breaks will impact on construction projects and some programmes may be delayed.
Members need to factor delay resulting from changes in the law into their risk management. Where members are asked to accept such risks it is important that they cover this risk adequately in their fee proposal. It is therefore important that members ensure their contracts are drafted in such a way that the occurrence of a change in law is adequately covered.
This is especially important for members who are operating in markets such as the Middle East where law and regulation is constantly being developed to meet the needs of growing international trade and investment activity.
