Tesco secures planning permission for retail-led development in Kent

Tesco's development arm Spenhill has been granted planning approval to build a new retail-led development in Kent.

The firm will regenerate a 7.2 acre site in the centre of Dartford by building a 100,000 sq ft Tesco superstore and cafe, as well as 45,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space located on a street to the side of the supermarket.

Furthermore, 231 one and two bedroom apartments will also be constructed on the site, which will be designed by ColladoCollins.

Jonathan Simpson, corporate affairs manager for Tesco, claimed that the firm has a "successful track record" of developing mixed-use schemes within major retail areas and towns.

He said: "We have worked in partnership with Dartford Borough Council and the local community to jointly develop the vision for Dartford's regeneration.

"This decision paves the way for the vision to become a reality and bring life back to Lowfield Street and Dartford town centre."

These so-called 'mini-villages' are being devleopd by Tesco across the capital in Bromley-by-Bow, Streatham and Woolwich.
