  Sustainability SIG explores sustainable buildings

Reducing the carbon footprint of buildings was the topic of conversation at the ACE Sustainability Sector Interest Group (SIG) quarterly meeting this week.

The SIG heard from Bill Bordass, technical director at the Usable Buildings Trust, and Judy Turton, manager of the Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB).

The
Usable Buildings Trust is an independent charity that promotes better buildings through the more effective use of performance data.  It spreads the results through its website, user groups, collaborative working and input to postgraduate courses.

CEREB, based at London South Bank University, is a teaching, research and demonstration resource for the built environment hosting a number of renewable and intelligent energy solutions.

The SIG debated the implications of work in these areas in terms of the services offered by the consultancy sector.

This was the latest in a series of thought-provoking sessions aimed at building links between consultants and key stakeholders in the field of sustainability.
