Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway Station will now open seven months early in May 2013, after official contracts were signed off sooner than planned.
The new development is to be located in the Bishopton area of Stratford-upon-Avon adjacent to the existing park-and-ride and is designed to encourage local people to travel by train rather than by car.
Included in the plans are disabled parking facilities, a taxi rank and passenger drop-off/pick-up and a dedicated pedestrian and cycle link from Bishopton Lane.
Using funding provided by the Department for Transport, Warwickshire County Council has appointed Buckingham Group Contracting to carry out the work - with construction due to begin later this year.
"This appointment of the contractor is giant step forward in the development of Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway Station and will mean that we can press ahead and look to open seven months ahead of schedule," commented councillor Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council's portfolio holder for highways and transport.
