Work has begun on a state-of-the-art Advanced Blade Casting Facility in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, with over 1,000 people expected to play a part in the build.
The facility is designed to manufacture 100,000 single crystal turbine blades a year for use in aeroplane engines.
BAM, which was awarded the construction contract for the plant, is using state-of-the-art 3D modelling software to design, plan and manage the development, the Yorkshire Post reports.
James Wimpenny, BAM's regional director, told the paper that the Building Information Modelling technology is "exciting" and will allow engineers to predict challenges and build in solutions.
Commenting on the scope of the plant, Mike Mosley, Rolls-Royce executive vice-president of turbines, said: "The Advanced Blade Casting Facility will use cutting edge manufacturing techniques to produce single crystal turbine blades, which play a critical role in jet engines and must withstand incredibly harsh conditions."
The casting facility should be producing its first blades in 2014.
