Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has selected its preferred bidder to design, construct and maintain 11 fire stations.
The £50 million project will see the Burton-upon-Trent, Kinver, Lichfield, Longton, Leek, Stone, Chase Terrace, Rugeley, Codsall, Penkridge and Ashley fire stations all rebuilt.
Following this procurement decision, preferred bidder blue3 will now finish the designs for all 11 facilities and produce a building schedule so that planning applications can then be submitted.
The final contract is scheduled to be signed early next year, after which construction will begin.
"This is a major milestone in the project and … takes us another step closer to a further 11 community fire stations," explained chief fire officer Peter Dartford.
Chairman of the Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor Len Bloomer, added: "Our first community fire stations project has exceeded our expectations and we’re confident this second project will be equally successful."
The first project saw the rebuild of seven stations and the construction of three additional sites.
