Issued: 05 April 2012

Olympic Delivery Authority chairman Sir John Armitt has been appointed chair of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering’s (ACE) Advisory Board.  Sir John will serve for a three-year tenure.

Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, ACE chief executive, said: “I am delighted that Sir John Armitt has accepted the position as chair of the ACE Advisory Board.  The Advisory Board plays a key role in providing strategic support to ACE.  I am sure that Sir John’s leadership will help to strengthen ACE’s voice as a leading representative body for the industry.”

Sir John Armitt said: “I am pleased to have the opportunity to chair the ACE Advisory Board at such a critical time for the UK’s engineering industry.  The London 2012 Olympics is a prime example of the valuable contribution that engineering professional services make, and I look forward to supporting Nelson and his team in raising the profile of the industry.  I would also like to thank my predecessor, Sir Michael Latham, for his leadership and contribution to the wider industry.”

Sir John succeeds founding chairman Sir Michael Latham, who has stepped down after seven years.

Paying tribute to Sir Michael, Nelson Ogunshakin said: “I have been privileged to work with Sir Michael Latham throughout my time at ACE.  He has been a leading voice for reform and good practice within the construction industry, and ACE has benefited immensely from his guidance and support at the Advisory Board.”
