Scottish Water unveils water treatment plans

Scotland is set to benefit from a £2.5 million water works scheme that will improve the natural environment of many of its towns and villages, it has been reported.

The town of Balbeggie alone will be allocated £400,000 to improve its waste water treatment works in a project delivered by a joint venture between Scottish Water and a number of world-class water, engineering and construction companies, icPerthshire.co.uk revealed.

An estimated 400 customers in the town will benefit from the scheme, which will involve the building of a new primary settlement tank that will hold the water before it is treated.

Scottish Water Solutions senior construction manager for the project Bill Stephen suggested the work would be completed in the spring.

He said: “As part of the project, additional capacity will be included in the construction, allowing for the growth and economic development of the village in line with local authority projections,” the news provider quoted.

According to hydroworld.com, Scottish Water has also announced a £20 million hydro power generating scheme to reduce the power costs of water treatment by ten per cent.
