Plymouth is to get a new technical college on the site of a closed school.
The £7.9 million scheme will see the currently closed Parkside School on Park Avenue, Devonport, turned into a modern learning facility.
BAM Construction will be handling the build of the marine engineering and advanced manufacturing-focused Plymouth University Technical College (UTC).
The UTC has the support of local partners Pipex Composite Pipes, Royal Navy, Babcock International Group, Princess Yachts International and Plymouth Manufacturers Group.
These businesses will be relying on the college to provide a high-quality workforce and to facilitate this, traditional classrooms will be replaced by modern workspaces in order "to engender a work ethos and help develop an extremely employable workforce," according to BAM construction manager Graham Kingdon.
"To reinvigorate learning in this area of the city, we are remodelling and re-cladding the retained areas of the existing buildings as well as making a significant investment in new build."
