A new wind turbine facility could be built in Hull after Siemens and Associated British Ports (ABP) submitted plans to the local council.
The two firms are aiming to make Hull the centre of the UK's renewable energy industry by constructing the Green Port Hull manufacturing facility at the Alexandra Dock site.
The plans include the development of a £100 million deepwater berth at the port and a £100 million wind turbine plant.
If the proposals receive approval from Hull Council and marine authorities, the new site will create 300 construction jobs and 700 engineering posts.
Matt Jukes, ABP port director for Hull and Goole, labelled the project as "a once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity for Hull to take the leading role in the UK's green energy revolution.
He said: "Our teams have put in a huge amount of work on the project over the last 12 months and I am exceedingly pleased that we're now in a position to submit these applications which will firmly position Hull as a centre of excellence for renewable energy and generate unparalleled opportunities for the city and region."
The facility could be operational by 2014.
