Construction work will get underway on phase three of the Leicester Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, after the contractor currently developing phase two was given the go ahead by the council.
The BSF programme is the largest capital investment programme for 50 years and some £235million has been granted to Leicester City Council to improve every school in the city.
Now Miller Construction, which handled phases one and two, has been given the green light for phases three and four, the first of which will commence in the summer of next year.
It will see the delivery of four new schools: Children’s Hospital School; St Paul’s Catholic School; and Hamilton School and Netherhall School, two separate schools on one site.
Miller Construction’s chief executive Chris Webster says that the contract fits into the company’s overall scheme.
“A key driver in our strategy set out at the beginning of 2011 was the education market,” he said.
“Being confirmed as the construction partner on these contracts enables us to continue our working relationship with the council.”
