Roads minister Mike Penning has announced that work is to begin on eight 'pinch point' improvement schemes.
This development means that the Highways Agency will now start the planning and design work for the £18.5 million batch of schemes, with improvements to be undertaken and completed by 2015.
The pinch points in question are the M1 at Junction 21, Markeaton and Little Eaton roundabouts on the A38, Cold Ashton roundabout on the A46, Newtown roundabout on the A30, the northern gateway roundabout on the A1033, the M40 junction 9/A34 Wendlebury and Junction 24 on the M60.
Commenting on the schemes, Mr Penning said: "The pinch point improvements overall will inject more than £200m of vital investment across the strategic road network.
"The programme provides smaller scale improvements that can deliver big returns by easing congestion and making journey times more reliable for road users."
Work to widen a 2.5-mile long section of the A23 in West Sussex got underway yesterday (July 2nd).
