  Pembrokeshire solar park opens

Pembrokeshire today becomes home to Wales’ first operating solar park.

Western Solar has opened a plant with nearly 10,000 solar panels imported from the USA. They form twelve lines across a six acre field and are expected to generate one megawatt of energy, enough to power several hundred homes.

The opening of the park, which may be expanded in future, is one of several such projects being bought to completion across the country. Firms are seeking to benefit from the feed-in tariff before changes reduce the incentive for large solar installations.

The project has seen £2.5 million invested in the site, and there are plans to double the size of the solar park in the years ahead if funding can be secured.
