Paul Morrell confirmed as speaker at ACE’s national conference

Issued: 15 February 2010

Paul Morrell has been confirmed as the speaker at the Association for Consultancy and Engineering’s national conference.  The conference will look at how to engineer the UK’s prosperity and how engineering can drive economic growth.

Paul Morrell will give a keynote speech at the end of the conference reviewing what has been discussed and debated.  This will be one of Paul’s first conference speeches since being appointed the first chief construction adviser to the Government in November.  The conference will look at issues such as: business opportunities in the low carbon economy, funding the UK’s future infrastructure and the future engineering workforce.

Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted that Paul has agreed to speak at our key event this year.  ACE welcomed Paul’s appointment when it was announced.  Paul is independently-minded and exactly the person the sector needs to lead on the issues of Britain moving to a low carbon economy and addressing the challenges of procurement that ACE members, and the rest of the construction industry, face.”

Notes to editors

In November Paul was appointed the Government’s new Chief Construction Adviser.  In that role he is leading the Construction Innovation and Growth Team as it investigates how best to deliver carbon reductions across the sector.

Prior to that he was senior partner of construction consultants Davis Langdon, having joined the firm straight from University in 1971.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institution of British Architects; and served for 8 years on the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, finishing as Deputy Chair.

This will be a great chance to hear the views of the man charged with influencing construction policy over the coming years.
