Nottingham tram expansion due to start in New Year

The £570 million expansion of the tram network in Nottingham is due to start early next year, it has been revealed.

Nottingham City Council has named the Tramlink Nottingham consortium as the preferred bidder for the construction and operation of two new tram lines, which will increase the existing network by 17.5 km.

The consortium, which includes Alstom, Keolis and Wellglade, Meridiam, OFI Infravia and Vinci Investments, will also operate the existing Nottingham Express Transit Line One.

Graham Stanley, managing director of Taylor Woodrow, the civil engineering division of Vinci Construction UK, was confident that the new tram expansion will help meet the city's transport needs.

He said: "We already have significant expertise in the rail sector including light rail and a regional presence through the Building Division of Vinci Construction UK and through our work on Nottingham Hub."

Advanced works will start in January, with the main construction phase due to get underway in March.
