The creation of two new power stations in the east of England would provide a significant boost to the local construction industry, it has been claimed.
EDF Energy is planning to build a third nuclear power station at Sizewell in Suffolk, while the government has named Bradwell in Essex as one of its preferred sites for a new generation of reactors.
Construction industry training board Construction Skills has published a report which forecasts that the two plants could result in the creation of 6,000 construction jobs across the region.
Amanda Sergeant, sector strategy manager for Construction Skills in the Eastern region, claimed the developments could "breathe new life" into the local construction industry but underlined the need to ensure workers have the right skills.
She said: "We need to appreciate the current strengths and weaknesses of the skills base and promote effective training planning with employers and trade unions, ensuring that the east of England supply chain is ready to play its part in the 'nuclear' renaissance."
Should the two projects receive approval, work could start on the Sizewell station in 2015 and two years later in Bradwell.
