ACE has published a new guide which sets out the key steps in an
effective procurement process in a bid to help clients procuring
consultancy services navigate the sometimes tricky path to delivering a
successful project.
ACE chief executive Nelson Ogunshakin said he was confident that Avoiding Procurement Pitfalls - an ACE guide
would prove to be a useful tool for the industry. “With the current
economic turbulence it has never been more crucial for construction
clients to ensure that the right elements are in place during every
stage of a project”, he said. “We would also like to see consultancy
and engineering firms use this guide to promote good practice by
clients and to guard against the risks they could encounter at any
point in the process”.
He went on: “ACE regards it as imperative for clients and their
supply chain to know they have covered all their bases before embarking
on a project. We are blessed with a huge pool of engineering talent in
the UK and we see it as our duty to try and assist clients and
consultants alike to work to their full potential. We hope this guide
will help them to accomplish that.”
Covering a range of topics from how to establish realistic timescales to regulatory compliance requirements, Avoiding Procurement Pitfalls
provides an overview of the concepts involved in procuring the services
of a project delivery team. As the introduction to the 17-page guide
states, it has been produced as both an aide mémoire for experienced
procurement professionals and a quick reference for those with limited
experience of procuring projects.
“The principles outlined in the guide compliments other procurement
best practice available in the market,” said Ogunshakin. “If you follow
the best practice available then you reduce the chance of disputes,
which is ever more important in the current hardening economic
situation,” he said.
The guide is available from today, and also features a
self-assessment tool which can be used “to assess the capabilities of
an existing procurement team and to assist in planning for any
additional professional skills that may be necessary in the future”.
