ACE chief executive Nelson Ogunshakin OBE has received an honorary DSc from Aston University. The award was received from Aston’s chancellor, Sir John Sunderland, in a graduation ceremony shared with graduands from the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Addressing the graduands, Dr Ogunshakin spoke on the position of engineering and science at the heart of society. Engineers have a great ability and responsibility to improve lives, but sometimes this vital role is not asserted effectively.
Nelson Ogunshakin said: “We are at a time of great opportunities for new graduates to the engineering and science industry. Climate change, urbanisation and resource challenges do, I believe, open up a new era of engineering and science greatness.”
Dr Ogunshakin, who is an alumnus of Aston University, also called on graduates to have a clear vision and strategy for their careers, to be innovative and results-driven, to continuously augment their skills and knowledge, to champion creativity, and to be a good advocate of the engineering profession.
