More than 900 affordable homes are set to be built in the north-west of England by 2015, it has been revealed.
A total of 905 homes will be built for families across Greater Manchester and Merseyside over the next four years by social housing consortium JV North.
The group is investing a total of £104 million in the project, while the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has pledged £20 million through the Affordable Homes Programme.
Rob Young, JV North chairman, claimed that the grant from the HCA will help get more people on the housing ladder in the area.
He said: "The next four years will see JV North members building modern, energy efficient homes for local people and the Affordable Homes programme will also allow us to extend the range of tenancy options making housing available to more people in our communities."
Work on the first development is due to start in January 2012, with Trafford Housing Trust's Calder Court scheme scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.
