A study by ACE finds that support for the development of microgeneration technology needs to be increased if the UK government wishes to speed up the adoption of microgeneration technology.
Supporting microgeneration technologies is necessary, expecially in the short term given the uncertainty surrounding their commercial viability. This uncertainty will limit their market penetration and will not help the UK achieve its carbon reduction targets unless action is taken.
Specific interventions could include: enabling local communities to engage in microgeneration schemes more readily; using the regulatory system to require the uptake of certain technologies; and strengthening the electricity grid to support a greater uptake of microgeneration.
