Work has finished on construction of the new concourse at Kings Cross rail station in London, although the complete transformation will not be finished until 2013.
During building of the main structure, there were up 1,150 people working on the site at any one time, during which time a thousand tonnes of steel was erected and five million metres of cabling was put down.
With the major construction phase complete, Network Rail is now turning its attention to fitting out the space.
Project director Ian Fry said: "With the major construction completed on schedule we can focus on fitting out the retail units and installing the new passenger facilities."
When work is complete there will be a new open piazza in front of the station that will be larger than Leicester Square.
The present station opened on 14th October 1852 and now handles 40 million passengers per year.
The new development is coming at a cost of £500 million.
