The second phase of the 50MW Camster wind farm in Caithness, Scotland is set to get underway.
E.ON says that, having completed a number of roadways and bridge reinforcements to allow heavy machinery to access the site, work will now start on the foundations of the 25 turbines.
When completed, the farm will generate up to 50MW of energy, enough to power 35,000 homes and is part of E.ON's drive to reduce emissions by 50 per cent by 2020 on 1990 levels.
Dean Guy, construction project manager at E.ON, says that the company is keen to make use of local resources.
"We're working very hard to use local companies, as much as possible, throughout the construction of this wind farm and have appointed Highlands based contractors and plant and machinery suppliers," he said.
As part of the project, E.ON has set up a community benefits fund worth up to £150,000 per year in order to support local Caithness projects during the farm's lifespan.
