Inflation continues to climb despite fears of spending cuts cooling activity

November’s inflation statistics continued to rise unexpectedly, with the CPI measure increasing 0.1 percentage point to 3.3%. RPI also increased, to 4.7% from October’s rate of 4.5%.

Within the CPI measure for inflation the most significant driver behind price increases was that of food, non-alcoholic beverages, and clothing. Downward pressures were exerted in recreation and culture, and transport. The slightly larger increase in the RPI measure can be attributed to the reduced weighting of air transport in that measure, so the downward effect from this component was much less pronounced in the RPI than in the CPI.
