Improvement works start at Leeds airport terminal

Improvement works have begun at the main passenger terminal at Leeds Bradford International Airport.

The £11 million expansion project at the airport will result in the creation of new retail units, restaurants and an extended duty free facility on the first floor.

Security will be improved on the ground floor with the inclusion of a larger security search zone and more gates, while covered walkways will be laid out to the aircraft.

Construction firm Morgan Sindall will carry out the work, which aims to help cater for the expected rise in passengers next year.

John Parkin, Leeds Bradford International Airport's chief executive, expressed his delight at the start of the latest phase of the project.

He said: "It marks an important milestone in the development of Yorkshire's airport and our desire to provide the very best facilities for our rapidly growing numbers of customers and airlines.

"We are the UK's fastest growing regional airport and with the strong support of our shareholders, Bridgepoint, we are confident now is the time to invest in our future."
