Humber Marine Energy Park proposal being considered

A huge port development on the Humber estuary has been accepted for examination by the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC), which makes decisions on so-called Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.

If approved, the £450 million scheme would pave the way for 4,000 jobs to be created, according to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The proposal involves the construction of a new quay approximately 1.3 km long, together with facilities for manufacturing, commissioning, installation and recycling of offshore wind turbines, as well as a biomass installation.

It is envisaged that the Marine Energy Park will also be well placed to develop future renewable technologies.

The aim of the project, says the scheme's developer Able UK, is "to create a world class Marine Energy Park serving the needs of the renewable energy sectors" and "to maximise the job and wealth creation potential of a major UK resources".

The IPC now has three months to prepare for the examination of the proposal.
