The minister for housing and local government Grant Shapps has promised to give home builders a 12-month planning decision guarantee.
In a draft of version of his speech, which he was due to deliver at the Home Builders Federation Annual industry lunch today (April 24th), Mr Shapps said the government is working to "unfreeze" the house building process.
Bemoaning the fact that the noughties "was a decade of missed opportunities" during which house building fell to its lowest level since the 1920s, Mr Shapps declared that the government had "learnt the lessons of the past".
Addressing the industry, Mr Shapps called for a collaborative approach that would see developers delivering proposals earlier and producing thoughtful designs.
"I want to see the house building industry working hand in glove with local communities," he said.
"Great design helps communities accept your work and speed up the system."
In recent news, a £90 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency via its Affordable Homes Programme is helping developers to build a total of 1,100 homes in the Midlands and Yorkshire.
