Local transport minister Norman Baker announced today (June 29th) that dual carriageway improvement works on the A57 in Rotherham are to go ahead.
The £14 million A57 M1 to Todwick scheme will see a new one-mile stretch of road built between Junction 31 on the M1 and the B6463 junction - providing an economic boost to the Dinnington regeneration area and improving road safety.
Speaking about the decision to give the project the go-ahead, Mr Baker said: "The £11.8m we are putting into this scheme shows that this government is serious about investing in the infrastructure the country needs to drive economic growth."
Construction work will now begin, with the road scheduled to open in December 2013.
In other road news, a scheme to widen a 2.5-mile long section of the A23 in West Sussex between Handcross and Warninglid will begin next month. It is designed to ease congestion for the 70,000 vehicles using it each day.
