Work got underway yesterday (December 21st) on the Gateways to Oldham construction project, which will bring new and refurbished housing to the borough.
The scheme will lead to the creation of 430 new council properties, the majority of which will be for rent, the refurbishment of 324 homes, improvements to local recreational facilities including the development of two new community centres, as well as improvements to parking, pavements and street lights.
The work is being handled by the Inspiral Oldham Consortium, consisting of Wates, Great Places Housing Group, and Regenter.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, cabinet member for housing, transport and regeneration says that the work will be good for the area.
He said: “This is a significant scheme that will be of great benefit to local residents and businesses… as work starts leading to greatly improved local communities and the opportunity of jobs for local people.”
The contract is set to run for 25 years and will include maintenance and management.
