Funding secured for second phase of Blackburn's Cathedral Quarter development

The second phase of the Cathedral Quarter development in Blackburn is set to be given the green light by the local council.

The £30 million project, which is a partnership between Blackburn with Darwin Borough Council, Blackburn Cathedral, the Homes and Communities Agency and developer Maple Grove, will transform the town centre and could create up to 350 jobs.

It will include a 60-bedroom hotel, restaurants, shops, a new bus interchange and 30,000 square foot of office space, as well as the Clergy Court housing development.

Councillor Dave Harling, executive member for regeneration said: "The development is part of an ambitious 15-year plan which has already seen the regeneration of Blackburn town centre.

"Despite the cuts, the council and its partners have worked hard to ensure that this scheme still goes ahead and it will be something we can all be proud of."

The first phase of the Cathedral Quarter development is almost complete, with the new Blackburn Youth Zone due to open in the New Year.
