EDF has reportedly delayed its decision on which firm will build its new Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear facility following the election of new French president Francois Hollande.
The new facility is to be located at Hinkley Point on the Severn Estuary, approximately five miles from Bridgwater and the M5 to the south.
It will create 1,500 construction jobs over a three-year period and work is due to start on the site next year.
However, a source told Construction Enquirer that the French company is waiting for things to "settle down" following Nicolas Sarkozy's departure from government.
Despite this, the source insisted that the delay would only be for a few weeks and that the firm is fully committed to the project.
Speaking about the project, Richard Mayson, director of planning and external affairs at EDF Energy Nuclear New Build, said: "HPC will be the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK making a major contribution towards meeting our future requirements for low carbon, affordable electricity."
