Four contractors are in the mix to build the new Manchester City academy adjacent to the Etihad Stadium.
Carillion, Bam, Laing O'Rourke and Bowmer & Kirkland are all keen to work on the £50 million project, Construction Enquirer reports.
The Etihad Campus is to be built on 80 acres of brownfield land in the Openshaw West area of east Manchester and will become a training centre for up to 400 young players.
Included in the plans is a 7,000 capacity stadium for youth matches, on-site accommodation and classroom facilities for 40 young players and a media centre.
Manchester City estimates that around 160 construction jobs will be created during building.
Brian Marwood, chief football operations officer of Manchester City Football Club, said: "The opportunity to build a world class facility supported by a well researched youth development plan would be a significant step in the realisation of that strategy."
Manchester City youth team products include Daniel Sturridge, who currently plays for Chelsea, and QPR's Shaun Wright-Phillips.
